Learn How to Play the Turkish Doumbek

Ethnomusicologist and Bennington College music professor Joseph Alpar is offering a hands-on Middle Eastern drumming workshop—1.5 hours, focusing on the doumbek. Students will learn the basics of drumming technique and several rhythms from Turkey, Egypt, and beyond. By the end of the session, students will be grounded in drum strokes, sounds, and rhythms as they explore the exciting world of Middle Eastern percussion!
